Combating Stubble Burning Through Farmer Awareness

Stubble burning is not just an environmental issue. It is a rural systems issue shaped by harvest pressure, limited equipment access, and the urgent need to prepare land for the next crop cycle.

Aaranyak Foundation approaches the problem through farmer-first awareness. Our work focuses on practical alternatives that protect soil health while respecting the economic realities of farming communities.

Policy alone cannot change field behavior. Farmers need trusted demonstrations, local examples, and clear explanations of how alternatives affect cost, yield, soil fertility, and time.

Student volunteers help bridge this gap by documenting practices, supporting workshops, and creating local conversations around residue management.

In-situ decomposition, residue collection, composting, and low-cost soil enrichment methods can reduce the dependence on burning. These approaches become more effective when farmers see results in nearby fields.

The goal is not blame. The goal is a workable transition where clean air, soil health, and farmer dignity move together.
